Primarily responsible for providing reproductive and general healthcare to clients. This position includes but is not limited to providing services within the Reproductive Health, STI, and Adult Health programs. Examples of Duties: The following functions represent the majority of the duties the position performs but are not meant to be all-inclusive or prevent other duties from being assigned when necessary. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: xc2xb7 Obtains, verifies, and reviews client health information. Records information in medical charts regarding patientxe2x80x99s medical, surgical, menstrual, gynecological, and coital history; vital statistics; and symptoms. Documents this information in a standardized, systematic, and concise manner. xc2xb7 Performs physical examination on patients Recommends and orders screening tests, treatment procedures, and medications, including contraception. xc2xb7 Interprets results and informs patients regarding test results, medications, and ancillary testing procedures per stated protocols and guidelines. xc2xb7 Provides detailed information on various methods of contraception including barrier, hormonal, non-hormonal, long-acting-reversible contraception, and sterilization for shared decision-making. xc2xb7 Performs diagnostic wet mounts to detect vaginal infection and treats accordingly within stated guidelines. xc2xb7 Collaborate with client regarding plan of care, utilizing shared clinical decision-making. Provides teaching and counseling of preventive health to patients and motivates patients to assume personal responsibility for their own health. xc2xb7 Identifies healthcare needs outside the scope of THD, and makes appropriate referrals as needed. xc2xb7 Consults and collaborates services with physicians, other health care providers, and social agencies to provide efficient and comprehensive health care. xc2xb7 Answers nurse calls from patients, physicians, hospitals, and the public. xc2xb7 Provides professional expertise, consultation, and technical assistance to public health nurses, ancillary staff, and students. Available as a referral source to PHNs for urgent, complex, or unusual client concerns and medical emergencies. Serve as preceptor &/or mentor to PHNs, APRNs and nursing students, ancillary staff, medical students, and residents. xc2xb7 Complete training required in support of the duties and responsibilities of this position. Assumes professional leadership responsibilities by participating in ongoing clinical training and education of nurses and APRNs. xc2xb7 Other duties as assigned include those required to fulfill activities supporting public health emergency operations. Typical Qualifications: Education: Masterxe2x80x99s degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or APRN program. Recognition as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing with certification by a national nursing organization is required. Experience: Three years of experience as a professional nurse is preferred. Knowledge/Skills: xc2xb7 Excellent communication, and interpersonal skills, adaptation to multifaceted situations, and physical assessment skills are required to work effectively in this position. xc2xb7 Knowledge of the principles and practice of advanced practice nursing, particularly relating to public health nursing. xc2xb7 Excellent listening skills to ensure proper diagnosis. xc2xb7 Skills in interacting with patients of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. xc2xb7 Counseling and providing health education and in providing skilled nursing care; and in listening, paying attention to details, and retaining information. xc2xb7 Work independently with minimum supervision. xc2xb7 Collaboration and teamwork are required to perform successfully in this role. xc2xb7 Good writing, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills are required. xc2xb7 Computer skills in data entry, MS Outlook, Word, and Excel. xc2xb7 Bilingual (Spanish/English), preferred. xc2xb7 Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner preferred. Licenses: Must possess a current Oklahoma Advanced Practice Registered Nurse license and a current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification (CPR). INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:xc2xb7 Internal contact with physicians, nurses, and other departments to exchange information regarding patient care and test results, and to discuss medical problems and treatment. xc2xb7 External contact with patients to gather and provide health assessments and other information, as well as advice and counseling; and with hospital personnel, private physicians, health departments, and medical institutions to exchange information regarding patient health, test results, and treatment. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY/ACCOUNTABILITY:Direct Supervision xe2x80x93 Provides supervision to interns, residents, and APRN students if applicable.Indirect Supervision xe2x80x93 None.Budget/Money/Material xe2x80x93 Responsible for assigned equipment.Reports to xe2x80x93 Manager, Clinical Services. Consult and take medical direction from the THD Medical Director.Work Location: On-site PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Frequent bending and stooping are required. Nurses spend a considerable amount of time standing, bending, stretching, and walking. Must follow proper body mechanics. Occasionally physical effort is required to assist heavy clients. May lift equipment or supplies up to 40 pounds. Visual, tactile, auditory, and olfactory skills are required in obtaining client assessment. WORKING CONDITIONS:Regular exposure to communicable diseases, contaminated blood, and other body fluids during the course specimen collection for laboratory analysis.Interaction with occasional emotional or disruptive clients. High volume and fast-paced clinic.
