***The Department of Corrections is currently offering a hire incentive bonus of up to $15,000.00. The incentive bonus will be paid in two equal installments, minus mandatory deductions. To receive an incentive, employees are expected to agree to a three-year term of employment with the Department of Corrections.*** The Department of Corrections, Division of Health & Rehabilitation Services, is recruiting for a Physician Assistant/Advanced Practice Registered Nurse 1 position located in our Goose Creek Correctional Center (GCCC) at Mackenzie Point near Wasilla, AK. Watch Alaska DOC HARS video here: https://vimeo.com/789872805/e68dd6b1e3 What you will be doing: As a provider, you will care for the emergent, urgent and chronic care needs of inmates assigned to Goose Creek Correctional Center. You will act as the liaison between facility and local physicians and hospitals, dealing directly with the collaborating physician or as required with outside agencies on treatment plans. You will prescribe Schedule II-V drugs as appropriate in accordance with State licensing requirements and the prescriptive authority by the Alaska Board of Nursing or the Alaska Medical Board. In an ambulatory care setting, the Division of Health and Rehabilitation Services (HARS) provides essential healthcare in secure facilities that serve sentenced and unsentenced offenders ages 16 and older. HARS also provides infirmary care to offenders who are pre- and post-op or who have medical conditions that require a higher level of care. The provider is never left alone; help from other providers is always available by phone or in person. The administrative roles of this position are unique. The ability to not only review the quality of the care provided but to craft policy to improve quality are not often tasked to advanced practice professionals. The work environment you can expect: The nursing staff and providers work in tandem to provide medical care for inmates. Providers often work with another advanced practice professional or physician. The nursing staff care for the medical needs of the inmates within their scope through protocols written by the chief medical officer. Additional duties will be performed in the central HARS office. Who we are looking for: We are looking for a provider who has an interest in working with an underserved population and enjoys working with a team. Experience working in the criminal justice system is a plus. This position requires an experienced provider (1+ years). EHR use daily and computer skills are required. Incumbents in this job class possess a State of Alaska license (or demonstrated eligibility to obtain Alaska license) and national certification for Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse; The successful applicant must also possess, or be able to obtain, an unrestricted DEA number to prescribe Schedule II, III, IV, and V drugs. ***Special Salary Note: The starting salary for this position is dependent upon difficulty in recruitment. Additionally, per Letter of Agreement, PA/APRN 1 with the Department of Corrections are paid at one salary step above the earned step. Minimum Qualifications Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska. Special Note: Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska may apply for vacancies in this job class. Applicants qualifying under this option may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of licensure will be required prior to final appointment and reporting for duty. Some positions require the successful applicant to pass a background investigation, including fingerprinting, as a prerequisite to employment. These positions will additionally register with the Alaska Prescription Drug Monitoring Program. In addition to maintaining Physician Assistant or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse licensing requirements, some positions may require maintenance of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support, Basic Life Support, registration with a Prescription Drug Monitoring Program, National Provider Identifier number, and others as appropriate.
