The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) is a registered nurse with specialized education. The development of specific technical skills enables the RNFA to assist the surgeon with specific intraoperative procedures that are beyond the scope of practice for registered nurses without RNFA education and training. The RNFA may provide direct care to patients using the nursing process preoperatively, intraoperatively, and postoperatively. Intraoperatively, the RNFA functions interdependently with the surgeon and applies knowledge, skill, and judgement necessary to assist the surgeon in performing a safe operation that yields optimal results for the patient. The RNFA has an expanded knowledge base and skill set and demonstrates the ability to provide support to other members of the healthcare team. Day to Day duties: Act as a RNFA on surgeries. Work closely with the surgeon in a hands-on capacity, helping the surgeon by handling vital tasks such as prepping the patient for surgery, providing suturing, clamping, removing scar tissue and positioning patients during surgery to ensure a safe operation. Perform preoperative and post operative care as directed by surgeon to facilitate proper patient care Primarily will be RNFA for GEN, GYN and Ortho trauma Cases. Giving breaks and/or providing additional supplies and sterile instruments as needed during operations. Assisting with Room turnover and restocking for next dayxe2x80x99s cases. Acting as an advocate for patient before, during and after surgery. 3 OR Suites Approx. 120-200+ cases per month Schedule: PRN- Variable-Will primarily be an on Call position- Covering On call needs for both Days and nights. Call at least one night a week. Weekend/Holiday call rotation Possible additional hours during the day covering surgical case needs. Per policy PRN requires availability to work a min of 5 shifts in a six week scheduling period + 2 holidays per yr. Qualifications: In addition to bringing your whole self to the workplace each day, qualified candidates will need the following: RN License required; Current state nursing licenses or RN license from a participating state in the National Licensure Compact, Colorado Only: RNs working in Colorado under a multi-state license must obtain their CO RN license within 30 days of establishing residency, i.e., drivers license, register to vote, etc. Compact to Compact. Upon issuance of a new multistate license, the former license is inactivated. For more information visit Colorado Board of Nursing – Compact Licensure Three years operating room experience required General knowledge of asepsis, healing, infectious disease process, surgical anatomy and physiology, safety issues and operative techniques Basic computer skills required Nursing Diploma or Associates Degree in Nursing required; Bachelors Degree in Nursing preferred Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing required for new graduates, preferred for experienced RN’s BSN Preferred Completion of RNFA program from an acceptable program (acceptable defined by the CRNFA certification program)- required BLS from the American Heart Association required Certification in perioperative nursing (CNOR) or board certification as an advanced practice nurse (APRN) Physical Requirements – Medium Work – (Exert up to 50lbs force occasionally, and/or up to 20lbs frequently, and/or up to 10lbs constantly) Your Connected Community: At CommonSpirit Mountain Region, we believe in the healing power of humanity and serving the common good through our dedicated work and shared mission to celebrate humankindness. The Surgery department at St. Anthony Summit Hospital has three OR suites, and averages 100 to 200 surgical cases per month, depending on the season. We specialize in orthopedic trauma, general trauma, sports medicine, OB/GYN surgery, urology and ENT. Our surgical volume is 50% ortho, 20% general, 20% OB/GYN, and 10% other services.
